Effective Communication

Within every interaction is the potential to connect, motivate, inspire, and transform conflict. Effective communicators maximize this potential.  They know that how we say something is as important as what we say.

Have you ever felt..

  • Like most interactions end up in win-lose scenarios?
  • Confused about what happened during a meeting?
  • Angry that you weren’t being heard?
  • Frustrated about wasting your time and energy trying to get your point across?
  • Unsure about how to keep energy and enthusiasm up while cutting costs?

Imagine..

  • Win-win interactions where both parties feel valued.
  • Meetings that result in clear action steps and a shared understanding.
  • Feeling heard and valued by your team on a daily basis.
  • Finding new energy, sustained motivation, and innovation.

In the Process Age, emotional energy is at a premium. Next Element offers effective solutions to help you conserve your energy while unlocking new potential. Our approach to communication training is measurable, observable, and teachable. We believe that unless you can see it, agree on it, measure it, and hold each other accountable for it, it’s not worth your investment.

We use the Process Communication Model®, a framework for communication that emphasizes precise, practical, and transferrable skill sets. Effective communication occurs in about 10% of normal interactions. Next Element’s communication training can increase this percentage to 40%, 50%, even 60% or higher.

The benefits can be profound

  • Increased energy and focus at work.
  • Reduced turnover.
  • Increased employee engagement and loyalty.
  • More efficient use of meetings.
  • Innovation and problem-solving.
  • Fewer mistakes.
  • Less time spent on corrective action plans and policy enforcement.

Case Study

A medium-sized Midwestern manufacturing company engaged Next Element in the Delta Trajectory, focusing on leadership communication and team alignment. Starting first with 12 senior leaders, then including 28 managers in the same process, we applied a long-term, low-intensity approach; ten, half-day training sessions with 7-10 days between sessions. Each week participants were tested over material from the previous session and set goals for the following week. As training progressed, learning and testing became more focused on real-world application, and the group began enforcing rules of engagement around trust, performance expectations, and communication. At the end of ten sessions, the group performed at 70% proficiency in applying effective communication skills to a variety of role-play scenarios, and shared numerous success stories from their personal and professional lives. During manager training, we continued to meet weekly with senior leaders to review case examples, practice communication skills, discuss how to support managers, and apply new learning to emerging challenges. Through layoffs, hiring of several new senior leaders, and adjustments due to the recession, this team has been able to stay focused, treat each other with dignity and respect, and keep innovating. As we enter the sustainability phase with this client, we are helping them build internal capacity so that we can move into a less visible supporting role.
