2010 January E-News

2010 – January Issue

“If you want to grow as an individual (work, home, life) this is the class
for you.  This course will help me with relationships, and to motivate
people.  I did not realize that people have other needs that are different
than me.  Thanks for opening my eyes.”
- Timothy Barker, Manager OT/PT, Wesley Medical Center, Wichita KS

NE CORNER

Next Element has seen 2008, 2009, and now 2010.  We continue to be amazed at
the support and positive energy of our clients, friends, and colleagues.  We
have aggressive plans for 2010.  We will be launching the NEOS on February 4 in Atlanta.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Watch out for Process Man, the only superhero
who is more effective with his mask off.  Stay tuned for our revamped
website, and keep those hot wings updates coming!

PCM NUGGET

A number of people who attend our communication training seminars argue that
it feels inauthentic to adjust their communication and leadership style in
order connect with, and motivate others. “It’s not the real me,” they say,
explaining that it’s more important to stay true to oneself than be shifty
and fickle. Read this month’s White Paper to see our take on it. -JK

BOOK RECOMMENDATION

“Don’t Be Such a Scientist” by Randy Olson

We’re always on the prowl for process related books – anything that helps
people grapple with content-vs-process, text-vs-context, what we say-vs-how
we say it.  Don’t Be Such a Scientist approaches the issue by comparing
substance-vs-style among scientists.  Olson, a Harvard Ph.D. marine
biologist turned documentary film-maker, argues that some of the best
science is going unnoticed because of the lack of style in how great
information is presented.  This is a terrific book on how to balance the
message with the packaging.  Easy to read, funny, and poignant.  -JK

HOT WING UPDATE

Newton’s Acapulco Restaurant has added hot wings to their buffet. Bathed
in a mexican sweet/spicy adobo sauce that is amazing. John Harrits, of JH &
Associates, West Allis, WI – agreed that they were pretty tasty.  John was
in Newton attending a NE seminar.

And… Yes, there’s an ap for that! Sylvia Dresser sent us this article from
